On September 28, the Central Indonesian Island of Sulawesi was struck with a 7.5 magnitude quake causing buildings to collapse and sending a 6 meter tsunami crashing into Palu, a city of about 350,000.
As of today, authorities have recorded 1,407 fatalities, 2,549 injuries, 65,733 damaged houses and 70,821 displaced persons.
The death toll are expected to rise as rescue teams scramble to search for survivors buried in the rubble while the authorities and aid workers struggled to reach other affected areas made inaccessible by damaged infrastructure.
On 1st October, President Joko Widodo agreed for international help to assist their local authorities with the on-going rescue and relief operations.
In response to this need, NECF has created a Sulawesi Relief Fund for for those who want to help the quake and tsunami victims.
This fund will be mainly channeled through our Indonesian Evangelical Alliance who are already on the ground working in the affected areas.
