LETTER PEKELILINGAN IKHTISAS: Billing: 1 / 2010
IMPLEMENTATION POLICY LIMIT THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TEN (10) SUBJECTS AND ADDITION TWO (2) ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS IN THE EXAM SIJIL PELAJARAN MALAYSIA (SPM)

Hereby, informed that the Cabinet Meeting dated December 23, 2009 has agreed that the policy limiting ten (10) subjects in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) remains unchanged, however flexibility is given to candidates to take two additional subjects from Year 2010.

2. Candidates who will sit for SPM starting in 2010 are allowed to take two other additional subjects. The two additional subjects must be selected from any of the subjects listed under SPM except the core subjects. Total number of subjects that can be taken by a candidate is twelve (12)

3. This flexibility is applied to all students in all school streams. All other conditions for subjects in the SPM examination, including its core subjects and electives remain the same. Achievement of candidates in the SPM examination for all subjects including the two additional subjects will be recorded in the SPM certificate.

4. The Government's decision to allow the two additional subjects in the SPM examination is consistent with the provisions of the Education Act 1996 and regulations there under.

5. This circular is to be read together with Circular Letter Professional Bill 3 / 2009 dated August 27, 2009 that limits subjects taken for SPM to ten (10).

6. All State Education Directors shall inform all the officers responsible for the State Education Department, District Education Office and the Principal under your respective administration.

Thank you
