24-7@NECF PRAYER GUIDE
December 2014

NECF will publish every month a prayer guide for the reference of 24-7 prayer centres or groups.

Before we begin praying for our nation we should first review our own personal devotion & prayer time, and our family devotion and prayer time. These basic spiritual disciplines must be strengthened before we embark on national prayer. If our own spiritual foundation is not strong we will not be able to withstand the enemies' attack.

Here is a 7-day guide which first focus on the theme of personal then family life and ending with the national concerns. Family is the most basic unit of our society. If family life is in a state of shambles then the society and nation at large will be weak and destructive.

SUNDAY
Personal devotional life

Ask the Lord for wisdom on how we can manage our busy schedule to incorporate spiritual devotion in our daily lifestyle.

City dwellers often struggle with time constrain due to traffic congestion, hectic work schedules, etc. However, a 10-minute break is not all that difficult. A constant 10-minute break throughout the day can easily give us 30 minutes a day.

Pray to our heavenly Father to give us a passion in our hearts to seek Him which motivates us to pray regularly throughout the day over our personal spiritual growth.

Scripture for the day:
O Lord, though our iniquities testify against us, do it for Your name's sake; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against You. Jeremiah 14:7

MONDAY
Family life

Very few people do not have family. For those of us with family, we must learn to treasure each member of the family. The bond of love in the family is important to fend off sins in the family. Family is often the place of refuge for many individuals in times of trouble. Family who puts God as the Head, uniting the parents and children, is providing the spiritual covering necessary for every member of the family.

Pray for closer family bonding in today's family lifestyle. Many families are separated by great distance due to career advancement or migration. Pray for meaningful time spent together for family bonding among the different generations of the family.

Scripture:
Deu 6:5 - 7 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart; you shall teach them diligently to your children,...

TUESDAY
Divorce

Divorce has traumatic impact on both the children and the adults involved. In many ways divorce is harder on children, who feel both guilt and abandonment. It is crucial to help children deal with such feelings.

Adults can learn from Abram's experience. Abram did not want to be separated from Ishmael, but he eventually trusted God to care for the son whom he himself could no longer see.

Pray against the increase of divorce in this nation including Christian divorce. Pray for wisdom among family members, from grandparents to uncles and aunts to help in troubled marriages and family situation. Pray for openness to seek help from professional counselors in helping problematic relationships. Pray for more spiritual parenting or mentoring to help people to be accountable for their questionable behavior.

Scripture for the day:
Mal 2: 15 But did He not make them one, having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. V16 "For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one's garment with violence," says the Lord of hosts. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously."

WEDNESDAY
Family Feud

Squabble is inevitable in family. In the increase of possessions, nephew Lot began to quarrel over the land with his uncle Abram. Abram resolved the quarrel with a decision to part company. He gave up his first right of choice to Lot. Later God rewarded Abram for his sacrifice to bring peace in the family squabble. God blessed him and his descendants with all the land that he could see (Ch13:15-17).

Pray for humility, love, and wisdom in reconciliation of family feud, both physical and spiritual family. Pray for guidance to avoid future conflict. Pray for healing and restoration of emotion and relationships. Ask for the Lord's grace to forgive and repent.

Scripture:
Ps 133:1,3 - Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!... For there the Lord commanded the blessing - life forevermore.

THURSDAY
Quality & Quantity Time

The Scripture teaches us to train up a child in the way he should go. This would require parents to spend both quality and quantity time with their children. Quality and quantity time helps our children feel loved. This would include several important variables, such as talking over problems, sharing one on one, limiting interruptions from phone call, whatsapp or others and delving deeper into one another's feelings and need. However, quality time is very difficult to plan. Children generally resist being emotionally scheduled into a time slot. The reality is that any moment can be transformed into quality time if a parent is alert. The truth is that quality time often comes during quantity time because relevant issues come up almost unexpectedly.

Pray for parents of this age of digital lifestyle where digital entertainment takes up the priority in our children's interest and their time. Ask our heavenly Father for wisdom in nurturing our young ones amidst challenges from digital communication. Pray for the development in e-learning for our young ones that it will not neglect any of the other development of all our five senses and the social-emotional development of our children.

Scripture:
Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

FRIDAY
Unity in the Church

Recent years in Malaysia the Church had gone through much division and disunity. Disunity is a powerful weapon that the Devil uses to destroy the Church and the work of God. We can try our best in running our programme or plans but nothing will be as powerful and effective as when unity of the Body of Christ is present. In fact, demonic forces can be present when there are disunity and sins.

Pray for the unity of the Body of Christ in this nation across all denominations. Pray that our church leaders will humble themselves and be willing to come together as one Body of Christ in the works of God. Pray Psalm 133 for the Church until we see greater and deeper unity in the Church of Christ.

Scripture:
John 17:20... but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

SATURDAY
Mentoring Generations

Our nation is entering the next cycle of 50 years. The Lord has been doing new things in our nation. We need to mentor and empower the next generation for leadership position. Succession plan must be in place otherwise we will be lagging behind and become less efficient and effective in developing this nation amidst global competitiveness.

Pray for the older generation of church leaders and national leaders to be able to see the urgency of this need of empowering and mentoring the younger generations to lead. Pray for generous heart to release power and control, and allow the Holy Spirit to do His work of grooming the next generation in doing the new things which God has already begun to do in this nation.

Scripture:
Isaiah 43:18 & 19. Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
