NECF Pastors Letter: Marriage Week International 2012

December 21, 2011

Dear Pastor / Elder / Leader,

Following our earlier letter on the special edition 52-week marriage devotional book, Marriage Moments (available here), we are pleased to provide you the following resources as part of Malaysia’s participation in Marriage Week International, a global campaign to celebrate marriage on 12 February 2012. This is a campaign by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and is supported by NECF Malaysia and Focus on the Family Malaysia.

The resources enclosed are:

a)  FOUR sermon outlines and Powerpoints on marriage. Feel free to use one or all four outlines for the Sundays leading up to 12 February 2012. The Powerpoints are as follows:
1. The Beginning of Marriage - English | 婚姻的开始 English & Chinese
2. The Love of Christ - English | 基督的爱 English & Chinese
3. The Blessing of Marriage - English | 婚姻的祝福 English & Chinese
4. The Celebration of Marriage - English | 婚姻的礼庆 English & Chinese

b)  Marriage Rededication Ceremony guide (English | 婚姻重新奉献仪式 English & Chinese). On 12 February 2012, we encourage churches to hold a marriage rededication ceremony for couples in their church using this prepared guide.

It is our joy and part of our mission to empower churches and Christian families through the affirmation and protection of marriage. We urge you to participate in this campaign by using the opportunities and resources presented to affirm the continue relevance of marriage in today’s society.

Dear Pastor/Elder/Leader,

Re: Marriage Week International 2012

Strong, godly marriages and families are the foundation stones in the building of society. To this end, NECF Malaysia is pleased to invite your church to participate in Marriage Week 2012 in February.

This collaboration with Focus on the Family Malaysia (FOFM) is a campaign under the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and Marriage Week International partnership. Sunday, 12 February 2012 has been designated as the day for the global church to collectively celebrate and encourage marriage.

Malaysian churches are urged to note the following campaign components and dates for their planning:

  1. Four-week sermon outlines on marriage. Pastors can opt to use one or as many of these outlines in pulpit preaching in the build-up to 12 February. The outlines are developed by Focus on the Family and will be made available to churches by the end of December 2011. We encourage you to join in this emphasis on the marriage institution and to plan ahead to incorporate these sermons into your pulpit ministry schedule.

  2. Marriage rededication on 12 February. Churches are encouraged to consider holding a simple ceremony for interested married couples to renew their vows as part of, or after, the Sunday worship service on this date. A proposed outline of the marriage rededication ceremony will be given to churches.

  3. Special edition couples' devotional. A 52-week (one year) devotional booklet will be available at a nominal price. This is intended for couples to do a weekly devotion together followed by ideas and suggestions to enrich and strengthen their marriages. Churches can pre-order consignments.

  4. Mid-2012 marriage conference. To sustain momentum from Marriage Week, a conference is scheduled for the middle of the year in the Klang Valley and will be replicated at regional level. Dates will be issued once plans are confirmed.

We hope you are as excited about these opportunities to celebrate marriage as we are, and seize this opportunity to be part of a global initiative to affirm its place and relevance in society.
