NECF Monthly Prayer Bulletin - March 2012

1. Machap Umboo Chapel in Malacca

On September 2011, the Alor Gajah Municipal Council ordered that a chapel located in the Machap Umboo Orang Asli settlement in Malacca be demolished on grounds that it is an illegal structure. The Machap Umboo Chapel for Orang Asli filed an application at the Malacca High Court on 25th November 2011 for a judicial review. The Malacca High Court granted a stay on the demolition notice pending the application for the judicial review that was to be heard on 23rd February 2012. The judicial review however has now been brought forward to 13th April, 2012. Let us continue to uphold the Machap Umboo Chapel case before the Lord in prayer. Let us pray for the Maachap Umboo believers to remain strong and calm in the midst of this challenge.

2. 13th General Election

As the 13th General Election looms nearer, talks on seat allocation and choices of candidates have been heating up. Party leaders from both divide have been conducting relentless talks and campaigns nationwide. SPRM has started giving reminders to voters to check their voting status through the media. SPRM has also made some serious concession to the 'BERSIH' demands for a freer and fairer election. Let us continue to uphold the coming election in prayer. Let us pray for best candidates to be nominated and elected. Let us pray for a government that will fulfill the aspiration and hopes of all Malaysians.

3. Syria

The wave of unrest that started with the Tunisian revolution reached Syria in mid-March 2011, when residents of a small southern city took to the streets to protest the torture of students who had put up anti-government graffiti. The government responded with heavy-handed force, and demonstrations quickly spread across much of the country. Since then, more than 7,500 people have died in Syria due to the security forces crackdown. Under-Secretary-General for political affairs Lynn Pascoe said there were "credible reports" the toll often exceeded 100 civilian deaths per day. Let us pray for an end to this violent crackdown. Let us pray for peace to be restored in Syria. Let us pray for God's comfort upon those that have lost their loved ones. Let us pray for healing upon the wounded.
