Disaster Response Training

27 March 2015

Dear Pastors, Elders and Church Leaders

NECF will be conducting their First Disaster Response Training. This training will be held from the 13-15 of May at Wisma Eagles, Full Gospel Tabernacle. It is 3 full day training from 9am to 4pm. Registration is at RM150 per person.

This training is designed to equip and prepare believers and local churches on how to deal and respond when disaster strikes. The recent flood crisis in the East Coast has highlighted our lack of training and knowledge in this area of activity. It has also highlighted that we can’t solely rely on the government alone to be responsible for rescue, relief and recovery efforts. The magnitudes of disasters are so big today that no one government can handle it without the participation and help of the general public. This happened during the recent flood crisis. The federal and state government were so overwhelmed by the flood that it paralyzed their operations. But thank God for the many NGO’s including those from our local Christian Relief Teams, many received timely help and aid.

Another reason why we should consider this training is because it’s strategic. Disasters provide open doors and those trained provide themselves opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and touch communities.  In addition, global researchers are reporting natural disasters have increase dramatically in its occurrence and destruction. This is true of our Malaysian experience. The floods are getting more frequent and destructive. How are we positioning ourselves in the light of these trends? Will we be the one rescuing or needing to be rescued?

I would like to encourage your church to send your pastoral staff, key department heads and members to attend this training. Those who complete this training will be given an International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) badge that certifies that they have been trained. This badge is recognized worldwide and is able to provide access to disaster zones for relief work.
