Conference Workshops

How can churches impact and influence their community? What can they do to make a difference to the lives of their neighbours? The NECF Malaysia Missional Conference workshops will provide important models and examples of how churches can live out their "missional mandate" to be salt and light to society. The following is a synopsis of the workshops. Please choose two workshops for your participation at the conference.

1. Bringing development to rural areas
Pr Dr Paul Chen has been involved in rural development work within the Jehai Orang Asli community for many years. He will share how churches may contribute to developing the welfare of the people and how to motivate Christians and churches to get involved.

2. Setting up a community school in your neighbourhood
This workshop focuses on the educational sector and how Christians may begin to bring moral education and values to people across the racial divide. Rev. Elisha Satvinder, who has already set up several community schools around the country, will share with us how he started the ministry to inspire others to follow suit.

3. Impacting society through the arts and media
Colin Kirton is a renowned figure in the arts and media scene with his own production, "Footstool Players". He will share how Christians can be a channel of influence to communicate common values to the public, and update participants on his latest work in this area and how Christians can get involved in this sector.

4. Mobilising youths to participate in nation-building for city transformation
Pr Lim Jit Pang is a vibrant youth pastor who has successfully mobilised hundreds of youths of various races and religions to be involved in making an impact in Kluang, Johor. He will share how he motivated and mobilised the youths to act as a channel of influence to people of all categories cutting across the racial and religious divide in the city.

5. Using business enterprises for community and society transformation
Bruce and Cathie Chong own a specialty shop which supplies raw honey, royal jelly, bee pollen and green propolis. The couple will share with us their working model and ideas, and how their concept has been able to bring about developments in poorer communities. This should inspire and set Christians thinking about how they can help the marginalised community by establishing businesses that will provide employment opportunities for the needy, whether in the urban or rural areas.

6. Influencing public mindsets through e-media
Participants will learn about the e-media's potentials and strength in influencing transformation of community and even society as a whole. This workshop will also feature the e-media set up by NECF for not only a source of news but a platform of influence and impact on society. Sreedhar Subramaniam, a founder of The Malaysian Insider responsible for establishing the site and managing it, will unveil NECF's e-media "Good Times" and talk about its potential.
